Most of my work was drawn using black Indian ink and only later did I add colour using computer tecniques. The colour appeared as grey scale in the newspapers, although most magazines, such as the Army Families Journal, always liked colour better.

MERCATROID appears in nearly every Menorcan theme cartoon as the horse-like creature ( pure Menorca-bred horse ), and adds sensitivity to the drawings by his multitude of expressions. He supports the underdog and hates corruption. He mocks ineptitude so he has quite a lot to say about Menorca !
Published two or three times a week in the Diario Menorca and then for five long years in the ULTIMA HORA Menorca newspaper - daily, Mercatroid became one of the paper´s main features.
Unfortunately, Mercatroid was ousted from his stable by members of the Partido Popular who were not so " popular " with Mercatroid when he party contributed funds to the newspaper.
The five-year anniversary bash had no room for Mercatroid amongst the 300 invited guests, especially as the guests of honour included one of Mercatroid´s main targets for his anti-corruption campaign and bore the title of " The most inept Menorcan of the Year 2005 ".
After this snub, Mercatroid was put out to graze in early retirement.
However, he is about to make a come-back. Wait and see !
Look out you inept Menorcans - especially if you have a modicom of public position.
Every Spanish town and village has its traditional " fiesta ". Menorca is no exception. Sant Lluis fiestas are in late August and probably rank as one the most boring events of the year. Mercatroid thought of an idea to liven up the fiesta using the old windmill at the end of the village ! Needless to say, no-one, not even Mercatroid, actually tried this !
The idea of keeping your horse rearing above the cheering crowd has been the object of the " Jaleo " FOR DONKEY´S YEARS ! ( excuse the pun ).
A fat, mis-shapen , but pedigree Menorca horse, stole the show.
Menorca has never had a cartoonist before who has ridiculed the local authorities - and certainly NEVER the local police ! " But this is what rhey look like ", said Mercatroid !

As building on rustic land was restricted, only tool sheds were allowed called " casetas ". However, many of these " casetas " soon became larger...and larger, and........larger !
There were a number of strikes by airline cabin staff which left Menorca isolated by air. Something had to be done.
Those lucky enough to own Menorcan pedigree horses soon learned how to use them to their fullest capacity.
